Marina News

Internet

Square Mile have installed new equipment, hopefully this will extend the reach of the wireless internet coverage to include the whole marina. If you are interested in having internet access from your boat contact the lock office and ask for Antony.

Travel Hoist

The boat hoist recently had a blow out and we have had to replace one of the tyres. The tyres used by the hoist are similar to those used on aircraft, as you can guess very expensive.  First estimates for a replacement were over £1000.00 each and a 3 week wait, as they are imported from France.  I did however find an alternative thanks to ATS.  Fitting had to be done inside a cage due to the high pressure (10 bar) and the risk of explosion.

Chandlery

As well as the chandlery in the lock office you can now order from the Plastimo catalogue, please allow 2/3 days delivery. The prices are very reasonable and the range of goods available is exceptional. Have a look through next time you are in the lock office.

Boat Sales

Look out for a new showroom opening soon outside the brokerage office, contact On-Water for more details.

The Green shed

It has moved, keep watching as there is something new on the horizon, all very secret at the moment but it will be open for the summer.

            Maritime Festival

A major event this summer 3rd and 4th July is the Maritime Festival.  Put a note in your cruising diary.  One spectacular attraction for the weekend is the arrival of H.M. Bark Endeavour and the Shtandart,  a 17TH Century replica war ship.  I am planning a huge cruise in company to meet both vessels off Redcar at 0900hrs on Saturday and escort them to the marina entrance.  (More details from Allan at the lock office).  Their max speed will be around 6 knots, so even the slowest of us can keep up.  At 1215hrs between Longscar buoy and the channel marks they will carry out a mock sea battle under full canvas each firing broadsides. Thereafter they will cruise around until 1600 hrs and then make their way to Victoria Dock for the duration of the weekend. It is open to the public on the Sunday.  Over the weekend the festival is promised to be the best ever with spectacular event both on shore and water.
